Velvets were woven in either of two methods – the terry method where a slack warp pulled up by the tram or wires creates the pile which is either cut or left uncut or the double cloth method where two sets of warp and weft are woven at the same time creating the pile in between the layers which are cut apart into separate clothes. Some velvet ribbons are specifically listed as terry velvet in mid-century sources.
A – Silk Velvet
B – Polymid Velvet
C – Rayon Velvet
